Well, this place certainly is dusty. I thought I should post a link to the slides from my GDC 2016 presentation “Fast and Flexible: Technical Art and Rendering for the Unknown”, which details some of the techniques and tricks we’ve been using on our new game PlayStation VR Worlds. It was a lot of fun presenting, and I hope to do it again sometime!
I really like Gametrailers.com for getting videos, it’s pretty comprehensive, but I was getting annoyed at having to click through a few pages to get to the download links. So, I’ve created a couple of podcast feeds, so that I can automatically download new trailers that get posted to the site. In other news, it looks like Metroid Prime Pinball will finally be released in Europe next month, but I’ll believe it when I see it on the shop shelves.
To keep this thing vaguely current, I should note that my first game with Fuse, Metroid Prime Pinball, has now been released in the US. People also seem to like it, with the average review score hovering in the mid-8 region, and Nintendo Power giving it 9.5, their highest score yet for a DS game. It’s been a great year, and it’s amazing to work on a game series that I loved as a kid, and still do. Hopefully the next title will be just as much fun to work on (and I’m aiming for a 10 this time).
I’ve moved the site to a new web hosting company, A Small Orange, as my ISP has had a few server crashes recently. Let me know if anything doesn’t work.
The site that I was grabbing currency information from stopped working, so I changed the script to grab exchange rates from Yahoo! every hour. This also had the knock on effect of making it a lot faster, as it now doesn’t grab the rates every time. The improvements have also been folded back into the CD-WOW price checker.
I shamelessly butchered some other people’s code and glued it back together to make a super minimalist currency converter. It also has a field for putting in a discount percentage – handy when you’re trying to work out voucher discounts. Loading in a sidebar is recommended for ease of use while consumer whoring.
I’ve upgraded the site to use WordPress, which is something I’ve been testing for a while, but the 1.5 upgrade encouraged me to finish it off. Not much has visibly changed, but you can now search and grab an RSS feed.
The lovely people at Fuse Games have given me a job after Starsky and Hutch 2 was canned. I’ll be making Gameboy games for Nintendo, so I’m very happy.
The CD-WOW price checker has been fixed, as they changed some HTML which broke it for a bit. You can get about £2.50 off at the moment using the links provided.
I’ve written some PHP code to search all the different CD-WOW regional websites and tells you the cheapest place to buy an item, converted into pounds. It takes into account discount links that I know of.
My old website had remained stagnant for far too long, so I thought it was time for a bit of a refresh. It’s all CSSified, like all the cool kids are doing.
